Bangalore: A workshop on stone sculpting is under way at Karnataka Shilpa Kala Academy. Organised as part of Suvarna Karnataka celebrations, the workshop will be on till August 10. Artists including M.C. Ramesh, Suresh Kumar, Ramamurthy, Shamsundaram and Kanaka Murthy and other senior sculptors from various parts of southern India are participating in the event. Work of these artists will be displayed in the garden of Ravindra Kalakshetra. "The sculptors will be given Rs. 20,000 each as a token of appreciation," Shilpa Kala Academy president Venkatachalapathy says. During the camp, the sculptors will be mostly working on stones of different kinds. The budget for the camp, including material and accommodation for the sculptors is Rs. 7 lakh. The Shilpa Kala Academy is producing a short documentary during the camp which will later be screened for students of art. It is expected to provide an insight into individual styles of sculptors and their approach to art.
