MADURAI: A writ petition seeking transfer of the investigation into the death of Bharatiya Janata Party councillor R. Pandeeswari from the State police to the Central Bureau of Investigation or any other independent agency has been filed before the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court. After hearing preliminary arguments on the petition filed by the husband of the deceased, Justice K. Mohan Ram ordered notice to the Madurai Superintendent of Police and a few others. According to petitioner P. Ramesh Muniyandi, his wife died on October 25, 2005, when the car she was travelling in dashed against a government bus at Tirupparankundram near here. Though the police initially registered a case under Section 304A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code, they later came to know that the car belonged to Madurai Mayor C. Ramachandran , and hence altered it to Section 304 part I (culpable homicide).
