Prolonged spell of rain likely in State
|
HYDERABAD:
The State is in for a prolonged spell of rain. A feeble low pressure area lay in the Bay of Bengal on Thursday in addition to the upper air circulation already hovering over the State.
Widespread rain lashed the State for the second day with Kaleswaram and Patapatnam recording a heavy rain of 15 cm each. Hyderabad and its neighbourhood experienced a downpour throughout the night on Wednesday. Hyderabad, Hakimpet and Pargi recorded 11 cm rain each.
Based on the two weather systems, the State Met Office issued a heavy rainfall warning valid for Friday to Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, East and West Godavari, Khammam, Warangal and Karimnagar districts. In other areas of the State, the rain would be heavy only for the day, it said.
The chief amounts of rainfall recorded by other places during the 24-hour period till Thursday morning were:
Machilipatnam, Mantralayam 8 cm each; Dundigal, Palakonda, Sangareddy 7 cm; Nandyal, Cheepurupalli, Ibrahimpatnam, Koilkuntla, Yemmiganur 6 cm; Khammam, Kurnool, Atchampet and Chevella 5 cm.
