KOLKATA: Tania Banerjee, the Bangalore-based BPO unit employee who was found murdered in Sakaleshpur taluk of Hassan district in Karnataka on Wednesday, wanted to spend her birthday on August 19 with her father in West Bengal. "But as she was in her training period with the company, which she joined just last month, she was not entitled to leave for three months. It was agreed that she would come home during the (Durga) puja. But all that has changed," Kalidas Banerjee, her father, told The Hindu from Bally in Howrah district on Thursday. He will now leave for Bangalore on Friday for the funeral. "With Tania gone I am left with none... none but my two pet dogs. Both my wife and daughter were very fond of them and now I will have to be with them alone," said the retired railway official. He lost his son three years ago. "Tania asked me to join her in Bangalore after my wife passed away this month last year. She was happy there and expressed her desire to settle down there, having lost both her mother and elder brother, who died in a road accident in September 2003," Mr. Banerjee said. "I declined. There was my property and my pets to look after," he said. His tickets for Bangalore have been arranged for by Aviva 24/7, the company Tania worked for. "They asked me to leave for Bangalore last evening, but I was in no position to do so and requested them to arrange for the preservation of her body till I am there for the last formalities," he said. "My dogs are all that remain of the family," he said.
