Constable's daughter abducted

NEW DELHI: The 15-year-old daughter of a Delhi Police constable was allegedly abducted in a van at Bawana in North-West Delhi on Thursday. Angry residents later blocked the road for an hour demanding arrest of the culprit and her release.

According to the police, the incident took place around 5-30 a.m. when the victim and her mother, who had recently undergone an operation, were going to fetch milk from a dairy in nearby Auchandi village. On the way, four men in a Maruti van intercepted them, pulled the girl inside the vehicle and fled from the scene.

The victim's mother raised an alarm, hearing which area residents gathered there. Her father, who is at present posted with the Samaipur Badli police station, said his daughter's former tutor Jitender could have abducted her.

The suspect's father has been detained for questioning.

Four alleged auto-lifters held

NEW DELHI: Four alleged auto-lifters have been arrested by the Paschim Vihar police of West Delhi. The police claim to have recovered a stolen car, a country-made pistol and a live cartridge from their possession.

Two of the accused, Ravinder Gurjar and Raj Malhotra, were arrested while they were travelling in a stolen Hyundai Ascent car on July 21. During interrogation, Ravinder allegedly disclosed that he along with his accomplices had disposed off about 35 stolen cars in the past one year. All the vehicles were sold to one Rashid, a resident of Meerut in Uttar Pradesh. Ravinder's accomplices, Manoj and Chaman, worked as parking attendants and used to provide him the keys of vehicles parked there.

At his instance, the police have arrested two other gang members, Noraj Malik and Ranpal Bhati

The police said Ravinder, who had been declared proclaimed offender in several cases, and a sub-inspector had murdered a person at Jaipur in 2004. Later, he also worked for the Anoop gang.

ASI arrested on graft charges

NEW DELHI: The Central Bureau of Investigation on Thursday arrested an assistant sub-inspector of the Delhi police on the Patiala House courts premises on charges of demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 to return his son's passport.

According to CBI officials, they received a complaint from a person alleging that ASI Satpal Singh posted with the Delhi Cantonment police station had threatened that if he did not pay Rs. 5,000 to him, his son's passport, which had been seized.

Drug peddler arrested

NEW DELHI: A 40-year-old man was arrested at Hazrat Nizamuddin in South Delhi on Wednesday for allegedly being in possession of drugs. The police claim to have recovered 40 kg of "ganja" from his possession.

The accused, Hannan, was arrested during a routine check. During interrogation, he allegedly disclosed that he was a resident of North Dinapur in West Bengal and had been dealing in drugs for the past four years. He was arrested at Kamla Market in Central Delhi last year but was later released on bail, after which he again started supplying ganja.

According to the police, Hannan used to procure ganja from Bihar. Hannan allegedly used to supply the stuff to small drug peddlers operating in different parts of Delhi, mostly in jhuggi clusters.
