Tension in Berhampur
Staff Reporter
BHUBANESWAR:
Tension prevailed in Berhampur town of Orissa's Ganjam district on Friday following a clash between Bajrang Dal workers and members of a minority community in which three persons were injured. Twenty persons were taken into custody and 12 platoons of police have been deployed.
The clash took place in the Khaza Sahi locality when a group of Bajrang Dal workers tried to enforce a bandh to oppose the alleged sale of beef in the town. The bandh supporters then burnt down kiosks and damaged a few shops.
The local unit of the Bajrang Dal had called for a bandh following an incident on Thursday afternoon when two persons, allegedly carrying beef in a bag, were chased away by a mob in the Sana Bazar area of the town.
