KOLKATA: A man, arrested from Delhi last week on charges of forgery and cheating, was produced in a city court on Friday. He was remanded to police custody till July 31. The man had designed a fake web page of Spicejet airlines to receive booking requests and job applications. The arrest was made by officials of the cyber crime cell of the detective department of the Kolkata police following a complaint by a senior Spicejet official here. It said the airline was being flooded with complaints from people across the country, saying they had either booked tickets or applied for jobs on the website against a fee. The police, who logged on to the web page, found it to be a near replica of the official Spicejet site. It offered booking facilities and online applications for vacancies at the airline's call centre, Gyanwant Singh, Deputy Commissioner, Detective Department, told The Hindu here on Friday.
Office raided
Acting on a tip-off, a team raided an office in Delhi and arrested the man. Though the amount involved in the cheating was to the tune of about Rs. 6,00,000, it could be more as the case was one of online fraud, according to the police.
