KANNUR: The Vadhasiksha Virudha Samithi, a forum campaigning against capital punishment, will organise an indefinite hunger strike in front of the Secretariat demanding that the State Assembly pass a human rights resolution against death sentence and release all life sentence prisoners eligible to be freed. A press release by organisation convener K. Girishkumar here on Friday said the agitation would start with a convention in Thiruvananthapuram in September. It mentioned the letter written by the then Leader of the Opposition and present Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan to then Assembly Speaker to adopt a resolution backing the plea for stopping capital punishment and inform the Central Government about it. The organisation urged Mr. Achuthanandan to stick to his earlier stand on death sentence.
