Importer-exporter code to be issued online

NEW DELHI: In a major step towards cutting transaction costs for trade, the Government has launched an online facility for issuing the Importer-Exporter Code Number (IEC). This code number is the first export related registration that an exporter is required to obtain. The facility was inaugurated by Commerce and Industry Minister Kamal Nath.
