BELLARY: U. Chandrashekar, Judicial Magistrate First Class (Junior Division), recorded the sworn statement given by G. Janardhan Reddy, MLC who has been suspended from the Bharaitya Janata Party (BJP), here on Friday in connection with the private complaint for defamation filed by him against Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, Home Minister M.P. Prakash and Minister for Forests C. Chennigappa for their alleged remarks against him after he made the Rs. 150-crore bribery charge against them. Mr. Reddy has said in his statement that he came from a respectable family and one of his brothers was an MP and another recently relinquished office as Mayor of Bellary. The remarks of the Chief Minister that he (Reddy) had lost his mental balance, Mr. Prakash stating that he was politically immature and Mr. Chennigappa saying that he lived on selling the mud belonging to the Government, brought down his image in the eyes of public. The MLC has expressed apprehensions that people might not extend the same respect as they used to do prior to the remarks made by the three and prayed the court to take cognisance of the offence and punish them. Mr. Reddy gave separate sworn statements in all the three private complaints against the Chief Minister, Mr. Prakash and Mr. Chennigappa. Further statements, if any, in continuation of what had been sworn by Mr. Reddy, would be recorded on August 10.
