Congress to boycott U.L. Bhat Commission of Inquiry

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: The Congress has decided to boycott the Justice U.L. Bhat Commission of Inquiry appointed to go into the bribery charge against Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy and two of his Cabinet colleagues.

Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president M. Mallikarjuna Kharge on Thursday came out in support of the allegation reportedly levelled by the Bharatiya Janata Party MP from Udupi Manorama Madhwaraj that the Janata Dal (S) president H.D. Deve Gowda had supported the Nagarjuna Power Plant on questionable grounds when he was the Prime Minister.

Mr. Kharge said he had directed party leaders not to approach the inquiry commission.

Speaking at the function at which the former deputy chief minister Siddaramiah formally joined the Congress, Mr. Kharge claimed that the Congress Chief Ministers S.M..Krishna and N.Dharam Singh had opposed the project.

That was the reason why Mr. Deve Gowda was sore with both of them, he said.
