Madikeri: Members of the Karnataka Dalit Sangarsha Samiti (Krishnappa) on Friday took out a procession here demanding that the City Municipal Council (CMC) authorities set right anomalies prevailing in the three schools run by the civic body. The members shouted slogans against the apathy of the CMC. In spite of informing the authorities concerned no action had been taken, they alleged. There were only three teachers for over 300 students in the three schools. It spoke of the neglect of the schools by the municipal authorities, DSS leader H.L. Divakar said. He said there were no separate rooms for preparing food in the schools under the Akshara Dasoha scheme to provide midday meals to students.
No proper toilets
There was no place for students to have food. The schools lacked proper toilets. Mr. Divakar urged the CMC to take steps to repair the roofs of the classrooms. Dalit students had been deprived of benefits under the 18 per cent scheme as well, he added.
Committees
Mr. Divakar urged the authorities to constitute a school development monitoring committee. It would enable parents to settle problems concerning the school and their children, he said. Later, a memorandum was handed over to the CMC authorities.
