Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: Union Panchayati Raj Minister Mani Shankar Aiyar called on Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi at his Gopalapuram residence on Friday evening.

It was described as a courtesy call.

Chief Minister thanked

Residents and representatives of many non-governmental organisations met the Chief Minister at the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam party headquarters and thanked him for having created a district with Ariyalur as headquarters.

They told him that people of the area were upset when the decision was announced to merge the district with Perambalur and were now happy about the Government decision to carve out the district again.
