THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Former Indian opener, Parathasarathy Sharma, has been contracted to serve as the head coach of its proposed State coaching centre by the Kerala Cricket Association. Disclosing this to The Hindu here on Friday, the KCA president, S. Karunakaran Nair said Sharma would be joining prior to September 1, the deadline set for the commencement of the centre's operations. The centre is to be attached to the newly constructed KCA headquarters here. Besides overseeing the preparations of the Kerala teams in the various age groups, Sharma would also be in charge of the State team's campaign in the Ranji Trophy, Mr. Nair said. "We hope that Sharma with his vast experience would be able to do a world of good to Kerala cricket and that his stint here would be beneficial to our junior cricketers." The contract with Sharma was finalised by the KCA earlier this week, after Rajesh Kamat, the former Karnataka Ranji Trophy player who was appointed in the same position earlier, informed of his inability to join the post owing to pressing personal commitments.
