Situation still conducive to holding talks, says senior Congress leader Purushothama Rao

Rajahmundry: Senior Congress leader T. Purushothama Rao, who was representative of the Government during the historic talks with Naxalites last year, has said that the Government is still optimistic of dialogue with Maoists.

Historic dialogue

Mr. Rao, who came here to participate in a private function, in an informal talk with media on Friday, said, "The dialogue was historic compulsion at that time.

And now again it is necessary to bring the Maoists to table".

He said `time' was the answer for failure of talks between the Government and the extremists. He agreed that the situation in the State was serious, but still it was conducive to hold talks very soon.Answering a question, Mr. Rao said that the DGP or Chief Secretary should work in accordance with the Government's stand and policies. Mr. Rao, who is also Chairman of the High Power Committee on Remote and Interior Areas Development (RIDA), said the committee's priority was to stop exodus to urban areas and average farmer should get self-sufficient. MLA R. Suryaprakash Rao, city Congress president Ramineedu Murali and PCC secretary Sankar Reddy participated.
