Bank services affected

Kakinada : The functioning of all 250 banks in the district except the SBI was paralysed on Friday following the employees and officers all India strike. K. Adinarayana Murthy, joint secretary East Godavari Bank employees' coordination committee while heading the demonstration claimed cash transactions had been paralysed and the striking employees forced the closure of the clearinghouses all over the district. The strike was in protest against the Government policies and attempts of outsourcing of work to private agencies and contractors. — Correspondent

Medical employees' protest

Kakinada : Medical employees owing allegiance to the United Medical and Health employees union led by its secretary Palivela Srinivas staged dharna in front of the Collectorate on Friday protesting against the Government orders barring the contract employees from getting the DA HRA, LTC, medical reimbursement and other benefits. They burnt copies of the memo of the finance department specifying contractual appointees will be given consolidated pay but not other allowances. — Correspondent

Housewife found dead

VIZIANAGARAM : Paluri Venkata Lakshmi (32) a housewife of Bellanaveedhi in Cheepurupalli allegedly committed suicide. Her body was found hanging from a beam in her home on Friday. She was married to P. Sankara Rao for 10 years and has two children. Though no external injuries were found on her body, a case of suspicious death was registered.- Correspondent
