Pandey sizzles

TIRUCHI: Host Kendriya Vidyalaya No. II's Prabhat Pandey claimed the long jump title in the under-19 category of the KVS regional-level athletic meet here on Friday.

Under-19: 200m: K. Ashok Raja (KV No. I, Madurai); 400m hurdles: S. Suvish (KV, Kanjigode); 3,000m: Prakash (KV, Meenambakkam); Triple jump: A. Praveen (KV, AFS, Avadi); Discus: Vinoth Kumar (KV, IIT, Chennai).

Under-17: 200m: A.J. Ashish (KV, Pangode); 400m hurdles: N.S. Anand (KV, AFS, Akkulam); 3,000m: K. Vyshak (KV, HPF, Ooty); Discus: Jitto P. James (KV, Trissur); Hammer throw: Piyush Kumar (KV, Tirunelveli); Triple jump: Kiran Babu (KV, Thakkolam).

Under-14: 200m: Sanjeeth (KV, AFS, Sulur); 600m: Akshay K. Sivan (KV, Thrissur); High jump: Nandagopal (KV, No. 2, Kalpakkam).

Vijay advances

Top seed R. Vijay Anand of Cuddalore moved into the third round of the men's singles event with an easy 21-9, 21-8 win over Naaz of Madurai in the Arokya Tamil Nadu State senior ranking badminton tournament, organised by the Virudhunagar District Badminton Association, at the A.J. indoor stadium in Sivakasi on Friday.
