Legal Correspondent

HYDERABAD: A Division Bench of the High Court on Thursday recorded an undertaking by the State Government that it would not permit the establishment of bars and restaurants within 100 metres of educational and religious institutions and hospitals. The Bench was dealing with a public interest litigation filed by Masthan from Nellore. The petitioner had complained that a bar was to be set up near a dargah and the authorities had claimed that the restriction did not apply to Municipal Corporation areas.

The Bench initially granted interim directions not to permit a bar near these institutions. Now the Government has come forward and intimated the court about the decision and it was recorded.
