Corporation to buy 2,000 buses and set up eight new depots in Kurnool

  • A survey to elicit public opinion on services offered by RTC will be taken up soon

KURNOOL: The APSRTC will soon introduce online reservation to help passengers book their ticket anywhere, according to APSRTC Executive Director Nageswara Rao. He was participating in a function organised by the RTC to celebrate the corporation winning three national level awards for fuel efficiency and tyre performance.

The Association of State Road Transport Undertakings (ASRTU) presented the awards after comparing the performance of 60 corporations in the country. The APSRTC stood first in the per-km fuel efficiency in rural area as well as urban areas and tyre mileage.

Mr. Nageswara Rao told the workers that good days were ahead as the corporation was turning around. In the first quarter, it made a profit of Rs. 140 crores.

He said that during the same quarter last year, the corporation incurred a loss of Rs. 11 crores.

    Profit factors

The reasons for the turnaround were increase in the passenger occupancy ratio from 65 per cent to 71 per cent and reduction in the Motor Vehicle Tax and Rs. 360 crores by the way of compensation by the Government towards concessions extended to various sections.

According to him, the corporation made a profit of Rs. 40 crores for every one per cent increase in occupancy ratio. Though the price of diesel increased, the corporation absorbed the additional cost and yet made substantial profit.

Mr. Nageswara Rao said the corporation proposes to buy 2,000 buses and set up eight new depots in the city. The services would be increased in profit-making routes.
