KURNOOL: NCC cadets of Kurnool Group (representing Kurnool, Mahabubnagar and Anantapur districts) lifted the overall State-level trophy in the inter-group Thal Sena selection camp conducted at Nuzvid recently. It is considered a rare honour for the youngest NCC group. Group Commander Rohit Shukla and Commanding Officer Vijaykumar Seth complimented the cadets who met them at the group headquarters here on Friday. Also, 16 cadets both from the girls and the boys wings had been selected for the Thal Sena camp.
New record
In another achievement, a cadet C. Venkatesh of Mahabubnagar district set a new State record in obstacle-clearance by completing it in 27 seconds. The camp was held from July 22 to 28. The award was given on the basis of the teams' performance in three events -- obstacles, map-reading and firing.
Rigorous practice
Among the senior wing boys, six were selected for the Thal Sena camp from the group. The Government Degree College here stood tall once again by contributing four cadets. The officers who trained the cadets said rigorous practice in firing and physical fitness activities had helped them secure six places on the 33-member Andhra Pradesh contingent of senior division. Six girls from the senior wing and four from the junior wing were selected. Tirupati Staff Reporter writes: Cadets of Tirupati NCC group returned home with flying colours from the State-level Thal Sainik camp that concluded at Nuzvid on Thursday. The cadets hailing from Chittoor, Kadapa and Nellore districts won the champion's trophy, stood first in shooting (senior boys and girls) and second in the overall competitions for girls. In the individual category, the overall best cadet award for boys and girls went to S. Dileep (Tirupati) and K. Neelavathi (Pulivendula) respectively, while the latter also came first in advanced shooting. B. Mahesh (Chittoor) and C. Suneetha (Tirupati) won the best senior boy and girl award in shooting. The Commanding Officer Wing Commander T.B.S. Rao, Training Officer G.S. Josan and Administrative Officer S. Chandra were among those who took part in the function organised to felicitate the cadets on Friday.
