CHENNAI: Chairman of the National Manufacturing Competitiveness Council V. Krishnamurthy has urged the manufacturers, especially those engaged in exports, to become globally competitive. Addressing an interactive session organised by the Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO), Southern Region, here on Friday, he wanted the exporters to be more efficient to make the Indian manufacturing products globally accepted. "We have tremendous potential. What we lack is the global competitiveness and the NMCC would play a catalytic role in evolving strategies to enhance ... competitiveness of Indian industries."
"Imbalance in labour laws"
Rafeeq Ahmed, chairman, FICCI, sought the intervention of the NMCC to correct the imbalance in the labour laws, create more industrial parks or special economic zones, and make available land at affordable costs. "We want more mother vessels to come to Chennai, Tuticorin and other Indian ports to help avoid the dependency on the Colombo port." A. Sakthivel, chairman, FIEO, Southern Region, explained how Indian exporters were putting up with poor infrastructure and procedural delays. This meeting was convened to suggest ways and means to overcome issues confronting the exports, especially high transaction cost, labour reforms and infrastructure.
