Special Correspondent
Pondicherry: Manidha Neya Makkal Sevai Iyakkam (Movement for Humane Services to People) has called upon the administration to ban plastic materials in the Union Territory. Founder of the organisation G. Nehru told newsmen here on Friday that petitions had been submitted to the Lt Governor, the Chief Minister, Chief Secretary and Department of Science and Technology seeking their intervention in the matter as plastic cups, tumblers and carry bags used extensively and thrown indiscriminately after use had been choking the flow of drainage water and also disrupting the working of the underground sewerage, posing threat to the health. Mr. Nehru said that a rally would be conducted soon regarding this.
