Over 20,000 litres of white kerosene seized, two held

CHENNAI: A lorry carrying 20,000 litres of white kerosene (aviation turbine fuel) valued at Rs. 6 lakh was seized near the Chennai airport and two persons including the driver were arrested here on Thursday.

Following a tip-off, the Civil Supplies CID personnel tracked the lorry bound for the airport. But, the vehicle went beyond Pallavaram and when the duo allegedly tapped the white kerosene from the lorry into separate containers, the police team caught them and seized the material and the vehicle.

A senior police officer said it was illegal for a vehicle carrying this fuel to deviate from a specific route. A case under Tamil Nadu Kerosene Act was registered and driver P. Rengarajan (27) of Tiruvarur district and G. Babu (28) of Muthamizh Nagar, Kodungayur were arrested and remanded to custody.

LPG cylinders seized

Twenty-one LPG domestic cylinders were seized from a mini-lorry. Two persons transporting it with the intention to sell it in the black market here on Thursday were held.
