Remanded to custody in cheating case

KARUR: Two persons arrested in a cheating case, were

remanded to 15-day custody by I. Jeyanthi, Judicial Magistrate, here on

Thursday.

The police said M. Abdul Rahman (31) and M. Mohammed alias Kakka (34) of Mallapuram district, who were secured from a place in Kerala,

were trustees of a Karur-based non-governmental organisation.

It was alleged they and three others — Roy Thomas, Zameer and Prem Lal bought computers and other electronic gadgets worth over Rs. 45 lakh from dealers in Karur, Coimbatore and Tiruchi but their cheques bounced.

Those running the NGO had also taken money from 12 persons but did not get their jobs abroad as promised, the police said.

Electronic gadgets worth over Rs. 26 lakh and a van were recovered from them.
