Villagers keep away from naxal's funeral

Staff Reporter

Sangareddy: The body of the woman naxalite, identified as Sangeetha alias Bujji (22) of Medak district, was cremated at her native village of Ramojipalli in Pedashankarampet mandal on Friday by her family members.

Even as the police remained outside the village and limited their presence to checking of suspected persons, most of the villagers locked their houses and stayed away from the funeral fearing repression by the police. The villagers observed a bandh in the memory of the slain naxal. Only her family members and representatives of people's organisations followed the procession to the cremation ground. Her elder sister identified Sangeetha who was married to Gopal, an autorickshaw driver. After her husband's death she joined the movement.
