Showers bring relief to city, suburbs

Staff reporter

Chennai: The persistence of a well-marked low pressure area formed over the north of Bay of Bengal brought a downpour in Chennai and the suburbs on Friday.

A trough from the low pressure area extends up to southeast Bay across central Bay, officials at the Regional Meteorological Department said.

Late evening showers

The late evening showers were marked by thunder as well as lightning. The weather office has predicted cloudy skies with showers or thundershowers for Saturday evening.

Reservoirs located around Chennai benefited from Thursday's rain. Between 8.30 a.m. on Thursday and 8.30 a.m. on Friday, Tamaraipakkam and Tambaram received 3 cm, Chembarambakkam and Poondi 2 cm, Cholavaram, Menambakkam and Red Hills 1 cm each.
