HYDERABAD : Extending a helping hand to the unemployed youth of old city, the city police on Friday expressed willingness to train eligible candidates for private security guard posts. Speaking at a programme organised at Charminar in old city to help local autorickshaw drivers secure driving licenses, Traffic Police Additional Commissioner A.K. Khan said there was huge demand from private companies for security guards. "There is an opportunity in this demand and we're ready to help eligible candidates by imparting required training," he said. Mr. Khan observed that a considerable number of auto-rickshaw drivers from old city had no driving licenses. Traffic police or Transport Department officials impose a fine of Rs. 300 on a three-wheeler driver if he is found without driving licence. Sometimes, Rs. 500 fine is imposed on the vehicle owner for allowing a person without driving licence to drive the vehicle. Rs. 300 fine means more than a day's earnings for a three-wheeler driver and most of the time the owners fleece the Rs. 500 fine amount imposed on them from the drivers. Sometimes arguments between policemen and drivers over fine amounts were leading to clashes, he said. "From application forms to basic driving skills, we'll provide you everything and guide you to secure the driving licence. Hence, utilise this opportunity," Mr. Khan appealed to the drivers. Hyderabad Police Commissioner A.K. Mohanty opined that people in old city were calm by nature, but some elements were trying to provoke them and create disturbances. "Now and then, some people throw stones at police. But today you showed you are friendly by presenting us flowers," said Mr. Mohanty amidst claps of the audience pointing to the flower bouquets given to him. RTA Joint Commissioner Venkateswarlu and South Zone DCP Sandeep Shandilya were present.
