HYDERABAD: Hyderabad District Collector R.V. Chandravadan has directed the revenue officials to serve notices on people living illegally near nalas to vacate their homes following a warning by the Met office of heavy rain in coming days. He especially wanted people living near Ministers Quarters be shifted, as there was every danger of a wall collapse. Schools, community halls and Government rest houses are to be kept ready in case of any emergency. The Collector, who held a review meeting to discuss relief and rehabilitation measures on Thursday, also announced compensation package to families affected by the heavy rain on Wednesday night. Two children Sai (11) and Uma Devi (12) have been admitted in the Residential Bridge School besides being granted an immediate help of Rs. 2,000. The children's mother, Sailaja, died in a wall collapse in Monda Market. Similarly, the family of Kumaraswamy who was washed away in the nala at Marredpally will be extended financial help under the National Family Welfare Scheme. A 24-hour helpline has been opened in the Collectorate. The phone number is 23202813.
