HYDERABAD: A first year student of Chaitanya Junior College, Ram Santosh, 16, allegedly attempted suicide on Friday by jumping from second floor of the college building at Kukatpally.

The Kukatpally police have registered a case against the boy under Section 309 (suicide attempt) of the Indian Penal Code after recording his statement. The victim sustained serious injuries on his two legs and was admitted to a local private hospital. Doctors said he was out of danger.

    Reason cited

"He told us that a lecturer humiliated him in front of others in the college by twisting his hand for committing a mistake forcing him to take such an extreme step," Kukatpally SI Gangaram said. The allegation made against the lecturer was being probed into.

Santosh is a resident of Housing Board Colony. His father Ramaswamy works as security guard in a private company.

Two days ago, a student of the same college, Rohit, died after falling down from a high rise in Secunderabad.

The Gopalapuram police investigating into his death suspected that he committed suicide.

However, they were yet to gather evidence to substantiate it.
