Changes in traffic system on the anvil The City Police will be introducing certain changes in the traffic pattern with a special focus on a stretch of Avanashi Road from Lakshmi Mills Junction to Hope College Junction in the next 15 days. The effort is aimed at decongesting the stretch that accommodated a number of corporate houses and educational institutions. The City Police Commissioner, Karan Singha, has already deputed a team of officers to ensure that alternative roads included in the new plan are made ready before accommodating the entire traffic when the new system is implemented. A team of officers led by the Deputy Commissioners of Police, P.C. Thenmozhi (Crime) and K. Shanmugavel (Law and Order), and the Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic), G. Balraj, are already on the job of planning the traffic flow. Removal of obstructions and encroachments and improvement to road engineering are also being planned with the authorities concerned. Once the new system is implemented, only vehicles bound for Hope College Junction and beyond would be allowed to use Avanashi Road for proceeding towards the East. Other vehicles would be diverted towards South. The motorists would have to take Puliakulam Road, Pankaja Mill Road and Tiruchi Road. Vehicles proceeding towards Hope College Junction from Tiruchi Road instead of reaching the Hope College Junction would have to take the Kamarajar Road, Lakshmipuram Sixth Street Junction (near Manis theatre) and reach the Masakkalipalayam Road for proceeding towards Avanashi Road. On reaching Avanashi Road near Vilankurichi Road junction, the motorists should proceed towards West on Avanashi Road and take a U turn near Anna Nagar to proceed further towards airport. The bus stop for town and mofussil buses presently at Hope College Junction are being relocated. The bus stops are being shifted towards West for easing congestion near the Hope College Junction. Effective and full use of the mofussil bus stand at Singanallur would help decongest the arterial roads, a press release added. Even private mofussil buses plying on the same route should not take the Avanashi Road and they should go only through Lakshmi Mills Junction and Ramanathapuram Junction for proceeding on Tiruchi Road.
