Unaccounted money seized

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: The Lokayukta police on Friday conducted a surprise check at the office of the Medical Department and found four officials in possession of unaccounted money to the tune of Rs. 87,180. The amount was seized.

The money is alleged to have been given as bribe by private nursing institutions. The raid was conducted as part of the suo motu investigation ordered by Upalokayukta G. Patri Basavana Goud, following reports of irregularities in the department. The search was carried out in Room. No. 113 at the Vikasa Soudha. The money was recovered from Under Secretary, Ganachari; second division assistant, Srinivas; and first division assistants Mukthar Pasha and Ramesh. The Lokayukta police have seized some files.

The Upalokayukta ordered investigation after he received information that the four department officials were demanding bribe for giving effect to the orders of the State Government for opening new nursing schools, increasing intake, and starting of new para-medical schools and colleges.
