KOCHI: A special squad formed by the District Collector on Friday seized 53 cooking gas cylinders kept for unauthorised use from various parts of the district. The squad seized 18 cylinders from various houses in the district. The team members found that domestic LPG was used illegally by some of the hotels in Thripunitura and Kundanoor. The squad seized more than 20 cylinders kept for illegal sale at a spot near the Alangad-Kottapuram road. About 200 litres of kerosene was also seized in the raids. The district administration will take action against those involved in use of domestic LPG cylinders for commercial purposes. The District Supply Officer has sought the cooperation of the public in identifying those involved in illegal sale of domestic LPG and kerosene. The District Collector had launched a special drive in the wake of reports on the increased use of LPG cylinders meant for domestic use for commercial purposes, especially in hotels. The squad consists of representatives of oil companies and gas agencies, police and the District Supply Officer.
