Thiruvananthapuram: The district-level monitoring cell set up to keep a tab on the prices of essential commodities on Friday initiated legal action against 32 shops for failing to display the price list and stock board. The action followed raids on vegetable and provision stores and hotels at Chala, Peroorkada, Neeramankara, Pappanamcode, Vellayanimukku, Attingal Town, Nedumangad, Kallara, Madankavu, Konathumukku, Neyyattinkara Town and Balaramapuram on Wednesday. The raids were carried out by squads functioning under the cell. District Collector N. Ayyappan said here on Friday that it was mandatory for all hotels and shops dealing in essential commodities to display the sale price of grains, pulses, vegetables, fruits and cooked food. The Collector also said some shops were also found selling packaged goods above the printed price. He warned that such violations would invite stern action.
