THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The supply of drinking water to areas such as Vellayambalam, Palayam, Sasthamangalam, Vazhuthacaud, Statue, Kunnumpuram, Ayurveda College, Overbridge, Kannammoola, Pettah, Chakka, Veli, PMG, and Pattom will be disrupted from midnight on Saturday till 10 a.m. on Sunday to facilitate maintenance work on the 1,200-mm line bringing water from Aruvikkara to the reservoir in the Observatory Hills. V. Chandran, executive engineer of Kerala Water Authority's Aruvikkara division, said here on Friday that the 1,200-mm line ferrying water to the city from the 86-mld treatment plant at Aruvikkara had developed a leak. Once pumping is stopped and the line is cleared of water, the leaking joint will be sealed by a process called `lead caulking.' Then a `step collar' will be placed over the sealed joint to make it sturdier. Just before placing the collar, the surface of the pipe will be coated with a special adhesive compound. This compound requires a curing time of at least six hours, Mr. Chandran said.
