Baghdad: Gunmen attacked two Sunni mosques early on Saturday in the Iraqi capital's western districts, fanning the country's ongoing sectarian crisis. The U.S. command said three Marines died in action in western Iraq. The three Marines died on Thursday in Anbar province, the western province which is a focal point of the Sunni-dominated militancy. A U.S. statement said they were attached to the army's 1st Armoured Division, which operates in Ramadi, but gave no further details. Their deaths brought the number of U.S. service members who have died since the beginning of the Iraq war in March 2003 to at leas 2,573, according to an Associated Press count. The figure includes seven military civilians. Also on Saturday, six day labourers were wounded in a bomb explosion in downtown Baghdad as they waited for job offers.
