NEW DELHI: Delhi Industries Minister Mangat Ram Singhal visited the Bawana industrial area here over the weekend to inspect the level of development and shifting of industries under the relocation scheme. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Singhal noted that the Industries Department in conjunction with the Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC) had charted out a comprehensive future agenda for the industry with emphasis on promotion of high-tech, low-energy intensive and non-polluting industries in Delhi that can achieve optimum levels of production using less space and power. Developed by DSIIDC, the Bawana industrial area -- spread over 1,900 acres with 143 km of roads, 140 km of sewer lines, 144 km of water pipes and 269.5 km of storm water drains -- is the largest in Asia. Asserting that the Government has decided to shift all the industries from non-conforming areas to conformed estates like Bawana, Badli, Narela and Patparganj in its efforts to reduce congestion and industrial pollution in Delhi, Mr. Singhal said the Capital had emerged as one of the biggest centres of small-scale industries. He said CM had announced a scheme for construction of cost effective housing for industrial workers.
