PATHANAMTHITTA: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has decided to nominate two more members to the party district committee, it is reliably learnt. The decision was taken at a meeting of the party district committee and the district secretariat held here on Saturday. A. Padmakumar, former Konni MLA, and Susamma Chacko will be the two new members, and both of them owe allegiance to the so-called `official' faction of the party. They were defeated in the election held to the district committee in December, 2004. With the induction of two new members, the CPI(M) district committee will have a total of 32 members. The faction owing allegiance to Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan has a massive majority in the district committee. The `official' faction has only seven members. Similarly, the nine-member CPI(M) district secretariat too has only two members who reportedly belong to the `official' faction. There were rumours that the party State leadership was seriously thinking of a reconstitution of the district committee. Party State secretariat member V.V. Dakshinamurthy attended the meeting.
