Fifty injured in poll-related clashes

Staff Reporter

GUNTUR: Some 50 persons were injured and two of them seriously in three different incidents of hurling of bombs and stone-throwing in post-poll clashes in the Palnadu region of Guntur district on Sunday. While elections to the 209 sarpanch posts passed off relatively peacefully on Saturday and even the re-polling in all the 18 booths on Sunday was incident-free, rival groups pelted stones at each other at Solasa village in Edlapadu mandal. Eleven supporters of the Congress backing Vemareddy Bhaskar Reddy were injured.

Grievous injuries

One among them, Moshe, was grievously injured and admitted to the Government General Hospital here. Seven followers of TDP leader Veera Reddy were also injured and treated at the local hospital after the incident occurred at 8 a.m.
