CHANDIGARH: Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda announced on Sunday that the five-year-old village boy Prince, who has overnight become a hero and a celebrity, would be given free education by the State Government. It may be recalled that Prince, who had fallen into a 60-foot-deep tubewell bore in village Haldaheri in Kurukshetra district, and spent almost 50 hours inside, was rescued dramatically last Sunday by the Army and the local people in the presence of the Chief Minister.
Chief Minister's visit
The Chief Minister re-visited the village on Sunday to honour those who had saved the boy rather "miraculously." He declared that Haldaheri would be developed as a model village. Soon after reaching the village, Mr. Hooda first visited the family of Prince at his residence and enquired about his health, especially the injured finger, which was still bandaged.
Cash rewards
Later addressing the villagers, he announced that developmental works involving an investment of about Rs. 20 lakhs would be undertaken in the village to give it a facelift. He also announced cash awards for all those who had made significant contribution in saving the life of Prince. Anil Sharma, who had brought out the child, would be given Rs. 51,000 and the workers of a sugar mill would also receive Rs. 51,000 for making a device which had played a vital role in the rescue operation. Rs.11,000 would be given each to Ram Karan, Jaswant, Captain P.K. Upadhya and Surinder Kumar and Rs. Rs. 21,000 to Assistant Sub-Inspector Amar Nath. Describing Prince as the "brave child of Haryana,'' he lauded the contribution of all those who had played a vital role in the rescue operation and said that the spirit of the villagers and all those involved in the operation had no parallel in the world.
Army thanked
Earlier, the villagers gathered at the local Gurudwara to thank all those, especially the Army, who had helped in rescuing the young child in a well-executed operation.
