Invitation to NGOs

Special Correspondent

JAIPUR: The Rajasthan Government has extended an open invitation to voluntary organisations to participate in the ambitious schemes formulated by various urban local bodies under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM), while reiterating its commitment to implement public-private partnership.

The Secretary, Local Self Government, Manjeet Singh, said at a workshop on the role of non-Government organisations at Indira Gandhi Panchayati Raj Sansthan here on Saturday that voluntary bodies could play a significant role in popularising the mission's targets for the next seven years and help in providing urban amenities in villages to check migration to cities.

Mr. Singh said a technical advisory committee for JNNURM would be appointed shortly in the State on the lines of a similar committee functioning in the Centre.

The mission incorporates urban development plans in Jaipur, Ajmer and Pushkar with a massive investment.

Representatives of nearly 40 NGOs, town planning experts and officials of JNNURM and HUDCO attended the day-long workshop.
