BJP minority morcha plans `jehad' against terrorism

Special Correspondent

JAIPUR: The Bharatiya Janata Party's Minority Morcha on Sunday resolved to launch a nation-wide campaign against terrorism while accusing Congress and Left parties of adopting a "soft approach'' towards the violence perpetrated in the name of religion and creating divisions in society.

"Terrorists describe their acts of violence as Jehad. We have termed our drive Jehad against terrorism to counter their false propaganda,'' said Tanvir Haider Usmani, president of BJP Minority Morcha, at the end of a three-day convention of the Morcha's national executive here. Mr. Usmani said the volunteers of the Minority Morcha would generate awareness among the people of all communities on the significance of concepts such as truth, non-violence and justice and remove misconceptions about Muslims created by stereotypes. He said the so-called secular forces had in fact strengthened these misgivings.

A resolution adopted at the end of the convention stated that the Minority Morcha would apprise the members of the minority communities of Centrally-sponsored welfare schemes which could benefit them and initiate a "Jan Seva'' (public service) programme to encourage them to join the mainstream of society.

.Among others, senior BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi, BJP vice-president Bal Apte, former Union Minister Shahnawaz Hussain, Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, State BJP president Mahesh Sharma and the party's in-charge for the State, Kalraj Mishra, addressed the convention.
