Staff Reporter

Meant for those with monthly income of less than Rs. 2,000

  • To train children in modern techniques
  • English, computer basics form part of package

HYDERABAD: Street children have another reason to smile and dream. Satyam Foundation will set up an IT education school for children from slums and those with monthly income of less than Rs. 2,000 from August 9.

The foundation's Livelihood Forum will launch the initiative in association with Society for Integrated Development of Urban and Rural (SIDUR). Senior vice-president of Satyam Foundation Balaji said training in English, typing skills and basics of computers like MS Office form part of the package.

    Entry-level jobs

"This can fetch them entry-level jobs of office assistants initially. Many opt for tele-marketing too. Some people have shown interest in studying further and are pursuing advanced courses in IT. The idea is not to train them in traditional skills like embroidery and painting but to equip them with modern techniques and giving them better livelihood opportunities," he affirmed.

    Engineers to teach

Apart from the regular faculty who takes care of everyday classes, software engineers from Satyam train people over weekends.
