Basu disapproves of statement

Kolkata: Veteran CPI(M) leader Jyoti Basu on Monday disapproved of West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee's statement terming Jagmohan Dalmiya's re-election as Cricket Association of Bengal president as a "victory of evil over good."

"I don't know what he has said. We will discuss it in the party," Mr. Basu said when his comment was sought. When it was pointed out that Mr. Bhattacharjee had described Mr. Dalmiya as an "evil force," Mr. Basu said the CAB president had won the election in a democratic way.

"I am trying to contact Biman Bose, [party State secretary], but not getting him. I can't understand why he [Bhattacharjee] gave such a statement." — PTI
