The case filed by the Kunnicode police had charged that previous enmity was the cause of the murder and that it was pre-planned. The accused are activists of the Indian Dalit Federation. But the Prosecution failed to prove the charges. Lawyers N.T. Gopalan, E. Shahnavas Khan, Kaloor Kailasnath and Sajinath appeared for the accused.
