SRISAILAM: The floodgates of Srisailam reservoir are likely to be operated on Tuesday to discharge 50,000 cusecs into the river initially. Incidentally, the gates were operated the same day last year too.
Review meeting
A high-level meeting at Hyderabad reviewed the flood situation in the Krishna basin and decided to impound water up to 881 ft, which will be reached on Tuesday. At 6 p.m. on Monday, the level was 878.4 ft with storage of 227 tmcft. The full reservoir level of the dam is 885 ft with storage of 263 tmcft. The inflow into the reservoir from Jurala project upstream was 2.38,840 cusecs. The power houses and Srisailam Right Branch Canal (SRMC) utilised 70,965 cusecs. Mr. Basheer, Chief Engineer of Srisailam Project, will supervise the operation of floodgates. The Nagarjuna Sagar reservoir downstream will receive heavy flood the next few days. The level in Nagarjuna Sagar was 560.7 ft as against the FRL of 590 ft. The reservoir had gap to absorb 80 tmcft before it overflowed.
