BANGALORE: The Government will take a decision on the K.C. Reddy Committee report on the Upper Bhadra project only after deliberating the pros and cons of taking up the controversial project. Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy said here on Monday that the Government had to study the new suggestions received by it and also take note of the Paramashivaiah Committee, the earlier technical panel on the project. He was addressing a meeting on the K.C. Reddy Committee report and after hearing divergent views expressed by legislators and others on the various aspects of the report for over two hours here. Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa, Minister for Water Resources K.S. Eshwarappa, Minister for Higher Education D.H. Shankaramurthy, Chief Secretary B. K. Das and the former Minister D. Manjunath participated in the meeting. The meeting discussed vital issues such as the total quantum of water available for irrigation and drinking, how the project would make clear-cut distinctions in providing drinking water and augmenting irrigation facilities, technical feasibility and environmental and ecological questions. Mr. Kumaraswamy said that the State Government would look into all suggestions and comments with an open mind. Later addressing presspersons, Mr. Eshwarappa said the Government would consider the suggestions made at the meeting and place the issue before the Cabinet for a decision at the earliest.Over 90 per cent of people in those areas were in favour of the project, he said.
