New office-bearers for Delhi Tamil Sangam

NEW DELHI: New office-bearers of Delhi Tamil Sangam have been chosen for 2006-2008 in the elections held on Sunday.

The following have been elected: President, M.N. Krishnamani; Vice-President, S. Durai; General Secretary, Rajagopalan Mukunthan; Joint Secretaries, Ramamani Sundar and P. Raghavan; Treasurer, N. Santhanam; and Joint Treasurer, P. Arivazhagan. Executive Committee Members: Jothi Perumal, Seethalakshmi Ramachandran, R.V. Chari, K.V.K. Perumal, K. Ganesan, S. Narasimhamoorthi, K.R. Venkatesan, K.S. Murali, K. Ulaganathan and S. Gurumurthy. Panel Members: S. Narayanan and K. Senapathi.

Run against diarrhoea

NEW DELHI: A large number of people participated in a run called Udaan organised in 32 cities across India over the weekend to raise awareness about large-scale childhood deaths resulting from diarrhoea. The largest ever run in support of the fight against diarrhoeal deaths sought to focus on the death of over 5 lakh children in India each year due to dehydration caused by diarrhoea.

During the event which also sought to highlight the issue of diarrhoea being a major cause of malnutrition in children, a large number of school children, parents, chemists, doctors, defence personnel and activists of NGOs also came out in support of the cause.

CRPF allots flats

NEW DELHI: The Central Reserve Police Force has acquired and allotted 852 flats here at Dwarka to its personnel. CRPF Director-General J.K. Sinha handed over the keys to the flats to jawans at a function on Monday. Of these, 300 flats have been allotted to Mahila Battalion personnel. Mr. Sinha said the Rs. 36-crore residential complex named "Jyoti Kunj" would help improve the quality of life of CRPF personnel and their families.

Children's show

NEW DELHI: National Commission for Minorities member Harcharan Singh Josh visited the Centre of Excellence for Children at Nehru Bal Samiti in Trilokpuri here on Monday. He inspected the classrooms, computer literacy centre, children's play centre, creche project for children of working and ailing mothers, vocation centres for cutting and tailoring, dress designing and beauty culture.

Van Mahotsav

NEW DELHI: Delhi Public School celebrated "Van Mahotsav" at its Rohini premises here this past week. The festival took off with the watering of a "tulsi'' plant by World Wide Fund for Nature Director P.K. Sen. Later Dr. Sen presented badges to students with 100 per cent attendance and urged them to move ahead and accept the onus of preserving life on the planet.
