ONGOLE: In a case of murder for gain, a bank manager, Chakka Koteswara Rao, was killed and his wife grievously injured when robbers broke into their house and attacked them before decamping with some valuables in the early hours here on Monday.

According to the police, Mr Koteswara Rao (45) was working as manager of the State Bank of India at Chinnaganjam branch, while his wife, Padmini (42), is a teacher in Tangutur.

They were living alone in their house located on seventh line of Ramanagar here, as their two daughters who are studying B.Tech and son, who is an Intermediate student, are staying away from them.

The house is situated at an isolated place by the railway track. Some robbers broke into the house by breaking the door with the help of a crowbar.

The servant maid who saw the couple lying unconscious in a pool of blood at 6 a.m., alerted the neighbours and the police.

They were taken to the Government Hospital where the husband died.

The wife was shifted to a private hospital where she is fighting for her life.

Additional Superintendent of Police Lazarus visited the scene of the offence. Police pressed forensic experts and sniffer dogs into action for clues in the murder case.
