BANGALORE: Anganwadi workers from across the State took out a procession here on Monday . G.R. Shivashankar, president of the Karnataka State Anganwadi Workers' Federation, said the State Government should adopt the system followed by the Maharashtra Government for anganwadi workers. The Maharashtra Government was paying Rs. 1 lakh and Rs. 50,000 as pension to anganwadi teachers and helpers, respectively, when they retired from service at 65. The anganwadi workers demanded that a welfare fund be set up to which both workers and the Government contributed equally. This fund should be used to pay Rs. 1,200 and Rs. 600 for teachers and helpers every month after retirement. The anganwadi workers, who are now working on contract, said teachers and helpers should be paid on par with their counterparts in government schools till the Government decided on regularising their services. The workers submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy at the Vidhana Soudha. Minister for Women and Child Welfare H.K. Kumaraswamy met the protesters at Bannappa Park.
