BANGALORE: The city police, in the last 15 days, have arrested 82 persons and recovered from them stolen property worth Rs. 1.17 crore. With this, the police claimed to have solved 86 cases of theft, burglary, robbery, dacoity and vehicle theft. The police said they have recovered Rs. 7.50 lakh in cash, 25 cars, an autorickshaw, 33 two-wheelers, two laptops, two cameras, 43 mobile phones and 450 grams of gold jewellery from the arrested. The most significant detection was made by the Central Crime Branch (CCB), which had arrested 11 members of an inter-State gang and recovered 12 cars, together worth Rs. 50 lakh. The gang had stolen nearly 150 cars from Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu in the past five years, the police said. The accused created fake registration certificates and sold the stolen cars in Madurai, Chikmagalur, Mangalore, Udupi and several places in Kerala. If the stolen cars were old, they dismantled them and sold the accessories to scarp traders, the police said. Of the 11 arrested, 10 are from Kerala. The names of the arrested were given as Shajid alias Ansari Babu (28), T.B. Jabber (27), A.P. Hassan (38), C. Vinod (29), and M. Vinish (24), all from Mallapuram district in Kerala; P.V. Yusuf (32) of Kozhikode, Mohammed Ashraf (26) of Palakkad, N.S. Shaji (26) of Ernakulam district, P.C. Dhanish (26) of Kannur, V.S. Raja (38) of Tiruchi in Tamil Nadu and Shamsuddin (27) of Mangalore. The East division police have arrested 17 people and recovered property worth Rs. 28.77 lakh. The arrested were involved in a dacoity, 11 robberies and 17 thefts, the police said. The North division police have arrested 14 persons, who were allegedly involved in 15 robberies, four burglaries and four vehicle thefts, and recovered from them 427 grams of gold ornaments, nine mobile phones and six two-wheelers.
